Pasture-raised beef, close to home
Our family started farming in Hickory Flat, GA in 1917.
At the beginning, the farm was part of a subsistence lifestyle, as was much of the rural area of Cherokee County. Vegetable gardens, fruit trees, chickens, and cattle were all part of farm life for a long time.
Over time, the Grizzle family began to focus more heavily on beef cattle. The cattle that live on our farm now are the product of generations of cows that have spent their entire lives here. The family members that live here are also generational! Currently, our fifth generation of family members are living and working on the farm here in the heart of Hickory Flat.
The animals in our herd are born and raised here, spending their time grazing on grass in our pastures or, in the winter, munching hay that we produced during the summer. We do not use any hormones or antibiotics on our herd. Cows are pretty hardy animals, so with some basic care and maintenance, they happily spend their time doing what cows are meant to do: eat grass!

We are excited to offer 1/4 Cows to those who are interested in buying local, pasture-raised beef!

William and Vicky
William is the third generation to work this land, and he is a wealth of knowledge about our community and about cows. For most of his career, he worked for Cherokee County Environmental Health… in addition to running the farm in his “free” time. Now that he’s retired, William enjoys the freedom to work at a more leisurely pace.
Vicky is a life-long Cherokee County resident who loves to help people know more about their food: she is very active in the local Farm Bureau office and can usually be found at their educational booth at a Saturday morning farmer’s market. Vicky worked as a nurse for many years but now enjoys the time she has to spend with her family (especially the grandkids)!

Steven and Summer
Don’t let looks fool you: Summer is the one who likes working with the cows! Growing up here helped her developed a love for nature, and this bit of Creation. When you contact us, Summer is the one you’ll be interacting with.
Steven loves to garden and grow beauty. He is the driving force around here to keep things looking neat.
And the kids pitch in according to their ability, which is growing by leaps and bounds as they get older.

Robert
Robert helps keep things running smoothly on the farm. He’s great at repairing equipment, mending fences, and catching calves. William has come to depend on him more and more, as much of the work requires someone who is nimble and quick on their feet.
Right now, Robert works on the farm… and has a full-time job on the side! We are planning on him transitioning to full-time farm work sometime in 2023.

Sarah
Sarah, a CPA by day, is the only member of our family that doesn’t live on-site. She visits often and helps out with everything from hay-making to book keeping.

The Grands
These three are the grandkids of William and Vicky. They love the freedom they have to explore and enjoy the world around them. They enjoy helping out with the easiest chores on the farm… most of the time!
